UPDATE 2: Finished building the character for this test scn, he can be seen here. Next step, Animation

UPDATE: Here is the same piece taken through PS. I didn't change any of the colors, just added a shit load of lighting filters and textures

My love for flash is far outweighed by my hatred for it.

Old favorites, and a new project

I loved Mortal Kombat as a kid and always enjoyed drawing the characters. Kabal and scorpion where my favorite. I drew thes two years ago and just recently did a pass over on them, I think Kabal will be my next painting project I see a lot of opportunity for cool lighting with that eye blast thing.

Bare knuckle Boxer

Wow I think I learned like a million things while doing this color is so fascinating. I was taught about light, shade, and highlights back in my Life drawing class, but when you are working in pencil rendering a drawing comes down to contrast and saturation of the tonal range of whatever pencil(s) it is you are using. Add color and suddenly the your options explode palette, saturation tones within in the color, all these things give you a endless amount of optional paths to choose from when painting, however, even with all these things there is still a right and wrong way of painting. When it all comes back to the way the light and color acts around the object you are painting there still must be a level of reality (with a realism approach) to the painting. I am in incredible disbelief right now, and to think the range of visible light the human eye can see is actually only a sliver of the entire light range, imagine if we could paint in infrared or the ultraviolet wave lengths. A work of art not only representing space, and light, but temperature as well. It would be cool to see a painting of a dessert and as your looking at it you beign to actually feel the heat eminating from it. Or maybe I'm just being a dreamer.

Anyways, if you feel you have some painting skillz that are better then mine, please gvie me some photoshop painting crits, I want to improve!!

MOAR!!!

Whats better then zombies? how about zombies fighting a werewolf? I like the pose of the werewolf I had a much more grand vision for this drawing and couldn't get the angle I wanted. drawing convincingly, and consistently on something foreshortened is a very difficult skill to even begin to grasp let alone master.

The Zombie on the center bottom makes me laugh every time I look at him, if you have a sense of humor like mine then you understand why.

Gurl with Guns

UPDATE: So i have came to the end with this I think. To work with color requires being bold and confident with your strokes, I think I got too wrapped up in details and lost sight of the bigger picture, I painted for 15 hours or so on this and it feels like im jsut spinning my artistic tires on it now, and half way through I changed the direction of my light source.. BIG NO NO i found out. One of these is a step in my process where I lay down the highlights and shade as block of color, the nitty gritty is trying to blend them, in which case I lost momentum. Well onto other things now.

Next UP! Gurl w/ Guns. This is another drawing I did that I liked and thought it had some really nice elements to it. however like everything else I draw it desperately needed a second pass. Her balance was off, The persepctive on the guns were off / I didnt like the designs, and some of her facial features seemed placed wrong. Don't get me wrong I could easily give any drawing a 3/4/5 pass over to tweak and tighten, but I wanted to get to painting her. Plus the longer I work on something the less chance their is of me finishing it.

Round 2 Dhalsim

EDIT: And 7 Hours later here is the finished, at least its as far as I'm taking it, I would really like to see some cool glow effects on the fire ball, but meh!

I really liked the Dhalsim pic I did a week ago but there were areas I thought didn't read so well, and some areas where the anatomy was off. So I redrew it, touched it up and plan on painting it. for now here is the line version.

A progress in work
